Process
Developed with the support of our scientific partners (internationally recognized French university laboratories) dewdrops process eliminates organic compounds in the liquid phase at room temperature and pressure. The bulk of organic waste which can be oils, solvents or the mixture of both and is completely mineralized by an original combination of soft chemical catalysis and biodegradation using environment and health friendly microorganism consortia. During the process the organic waste is transformed in carbon dioxide and an aqueous phase which is in conformance with European environmental standards or can be adjusted to meet customers’ requirements. The DEWDROPS process is particularly well suited for radioactive organic waste and allows the recovery of the radioactive elements which can be consigned to an official repository or, in some cases, recycled.
Assets of the process
- Reduces the volume of radioactive waste by a factor of 20.
- Confines and treats all the effluents.
- Offers a solution for any package of oil or solvent classified LLW or ILW whatever the composition of the contaminants
- Simplifies logistics and regulatory compliance.
Operational sequence of the process
The animation shows the successive parts of a typical intervention for your organic radioactive waste:
- DEWDROPS representatives come on site to take a sample of the waste to be treated.
- The waste sample is analyzed by DEWDROPS laboratory located in Sin Le Noble (North of France)
- Depending on the results, DEWDROPS scientists decide the best way to treat the organic waste. At the same time DEWDROPS takes care of all the regulatory issues.
- The machine is transported by container to the place where the waste is stocked.
- Everything is now ready to start the treatment of your organic radioactive waste. The process can be divided in three modules: (i) The first module is a soft chemical catalysis at room temperature and pressure. (ii) Secondly consortiums of selected microorganisms will biodegrade the organic waste. (iii) To finish the process a last module was elaborated in order to obtain an aqueous phase which is in compliance with the European legislation on water.
- Two products are obtained during the DEWDROPS process: an aqueous phase which is in compliance with the European legislation on water (if necessary DEWDROPS can adjust the characteristic of the aqueous phase to meet the customers’ expectations). And a solid radioactive mineral residue representing less than 5% of the original volume of radioactive waste.
- The DEWDROPS process enables thus a 95% volume reduction of your organic radioactive waste.
At the end of the treatment DEWDROPS will take away the mobile treatment plant
